Our Farmall Model A tractor is the power for pulling hayrides at The Christmas Tree Farm near Duncan, Oklahoma. The tractor was built in 1943 during WWII. It is in good condition but is in need of new paint. An unusual feature of this tractor is the lack of an electric starter system. We must start "Old Faithful", as we call the tractor, using a hand crank. When everything is set properly, only 2 to five cranks are needed to start the tractor.

The Farmall Model A was built by the International Harvester Company of Chicago, IL. The Model A was produced between 1939 and 1947. The 113.1 cubic inch engine produced about 14 HP at 1400 RPM. The transmission has four forward speeds and one speed in reverse. An unusual feature of the Model A is "Culti-Vision". This innovation placed the engine and transmission offcenter to the left of the tractor. This change allowed an uncluttered view of the crops while cultivating to remove weeds.

We use this tractor for most of the pulling work on our farm. It will pull a plow with two-12 inch bottoms. It is also used for disking, planting pumpkins and corn, pulling cut trees and general wagon hauling.

We also have information on our other antique tractor - the Farmall Model 400 Diesel.
